Help us create a culture where safety enables everyone to thrive.

At Bromford Flagship LiveWest, safety is more than compliance. It's a critical part of our purpose to enable people to thrive. As our Group Head of Health & Safety, you'll provide strategic leadership across the organisation, shaping the future of health and safety for over 120,000 homes, colleagues, customers, contractors and communities.

This is a high-profile leadership role where you'll influence at Board and Executive level, ensuring health and safety remains embedded in our culture, values and decision-making. You'll lead our health and safety strategy, develop a high-performing team and ensure our framework continues to support both regulatory compliance and business success.

Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, you'll drive continuous improvement, strengthen assurance and governance arrangements, and help us create safer environments where people can thrive.

What you'll be doing

As our principal health and safety authority, you'll be responsible for leading, developing and delivering our strategic health and safety framework across Bromford Flagship LiveWest.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and own the organisation's Health & Safety Strategy, ensuring it reflects current legislation, emerging risks and business priorities.

  • Provide expert strategic advice and constructive challenge to Executive Leaders, Boards and Committees.

  • Oversee health and safety governance, assurance frameworks, reporting arrangements and compliance activities.

  • Lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies, standards and operational frameworks.

  • Drive a proactive and positive safety culture across all areas of the business, including housing operations, maintenance, construction and corporate services.

  • Lead, coach and develop a highly effective team of health and safety professionals.

  • Monitor organisational performance, using data and insight to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Manage the health and safety budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and value for money.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced and credible health and safety leader who combines strategic thinking with a pragmatic, people-focused approach.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience leading health and safety functions within a complex organisation.

  • Proven success in developing and delivering health and safety strategies that improve organisational performance and compliance.

  • Strong leadership and people management experience, with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at Executive, Board and operational levels.

  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, governance and assurance practices.

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, using data and evidence to drive improvements.

  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.

  • A Level 6 qualification (or degree level equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Full UK driving licence.

We’re Bromford Flagship LiveWest (BFL), a place-based affordable housing provider supporting almost 300,000 customers across the southwest, central and east of England.

Our purpose is simple and honest: we invest in homes and relationships so that people can thrive. As the UK’s largest provider of new affordable homes, we deliver over 3,000 new homes each year—helping to meet growing demand and build stronger communities.

Why our work matters
The need for safe, affordable housing has never been greater. Rising costs, growing inequality and increasing homelessness are making it harder for people to buy or rent a home. Strong housing associations like BFL play a vital role in providing quality homes and creating opportunities for a better future.

Through place-based working, our teams build progress from the ground up. You’ll find us at the heart of the communities we serve—strengthening neighbourhood relationships, responding quickly to changing needs and planning for the long term.

We’re also a place where people can grow. We give our colleagues the tools and opportunities to build meaningful careers, develop future-ready skills and perform at their best, all within a supportive and inclusive culture guided by our values.

We’re a place for people determined to make a difference.

Bromford Flagship LiveWest. A place to make your own.

We’re proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work, thanks to our inclusive, values-driven culture. We know that diverse teams bring out the best in everyone, and we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.

We are a proud "Disability Confident" (Level 2) and Menopause Friendly employer and have signed the Armed Forces covenant to support those who serve.

We encourage people from all sections of our community to apply for jobs with us. Particularly, we welcome those who have been historically underrepresented in areas of our workforce including people from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Wherever possible, we offer flexible working arrangements to help you balance your work and personal life, alongside the tools, training, and opportunities you need to develop and succeed in your career.
